Description
In all the Kingdom's cities, the ancient medinas are the guardians of the history of Moroccan civilization. Deprived of its old town by the 1960 earthquake, Agadir touched the heart of Beato Salvatore, aka Coco Polizzi. Driven by fervent ambition, in 1992 he undertook the realization of this monumental project.
Traditional reconstruction
It's a veritable miniature medina built using traditional methods inspired by ancestral constructions, with materials sourced mainly from the region: white Agadir stone, red Argana stone, green Anzi slate, Taliouine ochre earth, eucalyptus and laurel wood, and much more.
An architectural masterpiece
The architectural aspect is based on decorative details and forms, ranging from narrow lanes, workshops, niches and windows, to vast patios, squares and the amphitheatre. This architectural masterpiece, inspired by Arab, Amazigh, Andalusian, Greek and Roman cultures, magnificently showcases the region's craftsmanship.
The work of master craftsmen
Strolling through the narrow streets and magnificent arcaded galleries, you'll discover the skills of master craftsmen, the “Maâlems”, under the artistic and technical direction of Coco Polizzi. Admire the passageways, carved wooden Amazigh doors, wrought-iron scrolls, moucharabiehs, carved stonework, Roman mosaics, colorful stained-glass windows and mosaic Amazigh carpets.
Heritage preservation
Agadir's Medina has an intrinsic mission to safeguard the Amazigh cultural and architectural heritage and pass on ancestral know-how. A visit to the Medina of Agadir is an immersion in Moroccan history and craftsmanship, an unforgettable experience that celebrates the richness and diversity of local culture.
